Jesus Becomes Several Metaphors in One Sermon
-luke
Confusion arose at last Christmas service as Father Benjamin Routhsler made use of a few too many metaphors.
First, the savior was a wonderful Christmas gift, then he was back to being a child, then he was a candle, then baby, then fruit. Although the service was beautiful and all in attendance felt enlightened by the end, the sermon was a labyrinth of comparisons that was very difficult to follow.
Parishioner Mary Jenkins wondered aloud in the parking lot "Did anyone else follow that?" adding later, "Why can't he [Routhsler] just call Jesus a wonderful gift like everyone else and call it a night?"
Other parishioners also questioned the quality of the choir and the reliability of the alter boys. "I think he [alter boy Davie West] nearly dropped that holy water. That's a no go," said Richard Ewing whispered to his wife at the processional."Well, there's always next week," added Richard optimistically.
